Making use of an awkward space below a staircase to an upper villa, a simple garden office is proposed to free up the space in the house currently given over to working from home. Filling the available height to the underside of the stair allows a compact footprint to feel airy and generous, with a garden store accommodated in the space too low to be used as the office.
A palette of simple, locally available materials keeps costs and embodied carbon to a minimum. Scottish larch cladding and rusted steel trims are allowed to age naturally, weathering down to settle into the tones of the garden.
